Again, because the wording within the text of proposed Bill SB 5044 is so vague, we are forced to rely on stories in the news and testimony from those involved to see exactly what professional learning on equity, cultural competency, and dismantling institutional racism in the public school system is and how it is used in schools.
This video is what Glen Jenkins, a 5th grade teacher of the Auburn School District, member of the WEA and member of the Staffing Support Group at OSPI, had to say about the need for this training to be mandated for professional staff in Washington State Schools.
